Sheltering beneath the Giant's Cup in the unspoilt Southern Natal Drakensberg National Park, a World Heritage site, just 12 km from Sani Pass, lies a little known secluded valley on the Pholela River catchments.

The lake which takes its name from the trout farm nestling in the valley is one of a chain of five that dot this pristine waterway.

Of exceptional beauty, with stunning views of the Khanti range in the foreground and the high 'berg beyond, Lake Glencairn covers some 40ha.

Home to fish eagles, waterfowl, otters and small felines (genet, civet and caracal), which hunt its marshy reed beds, the lake is well stocked with rainbow and brown trout and has yielded fish in excess of 10lbs. Common reedbuck, mountain reedbuck, bushbuck, eland, duiker and baboons are commonly seen (along with over 100 bird species) on the surrounding hills, jackals though seldom seen, are often heard at night.

The owners, Jonathan and Cindy Leontsinis, personally welcome guests who come to visit and try to ensure that their stay is a memorable one.

Activities on the farm include hiking, birding, swimming, boating, tubing on the Pholela river (which flows through the property), botanising (Jonathan is a horticulturist), and of course fly fishing on both river and dam.

More than 100 km of exciting mountain bike trails lace the immediate are and horseback riding under the eye of a professional instructor is available within a short distance.
Day trips up Sani Pass in 4-wheel drive vehicles can be arranged as well as hikes further afield for the more energetic, and guided walks to rock art sites in the vicinity. For the brave of heart: abseiling, hang-gliding and scenic flights in micro- light aircraft can also be arranged. There are three excellent golf courses nearby as well as two highly esteemed restaurants.

Other:

A comfortable, upmarket fully equipped rondavel with fireplace and DSTV, accommodates six guests and overlooks the Pholela riverlands.

The "Trout House", also with fireplace and DSTV is fully equipped and sleeps six people. It has two private bedrooms each sleeping two people, and an open-plan lounge area that has two more beds. An additional six people can be accommodated in an adjacent annex. It has its own small dam stocked with bass for children to catch.

A shortly-to-be-completed new unit called "The Stables" will soon be available. It has three units - one eight-sleeper and two 4-sleepers.

All units have braai/barbecue facilities with an initial load of firewood provided, and both are serviced daily. Laundry can be done by arrangement.

Although the venue is able to cater for up to 28 guests, the owners, Jonathan and Cindy never fill the units. Their desire is to maintain the "feel of exclusivity" of the venue and NEVER to allow guests to feel as if they are "at a resort". They should always feel that they have the venue to themselves.
